Just imagine, without thinking much, you just buy a lottery ticket from the market and with that ticket you become a millionaire sitting at home! It would seem just like a dream, wouldn’t it? Something similar happened with a person belonging to a small village in Rajasthan. The luck of Amit Sehra, who was struggling to make ends meet in Kotputli village of Jaipur district, changed when he hit the jackpot. Actually Amit has won an amount of Rs 11 crore from the lottery.
After winning such a huge amount, Amit Sehra spoke to the media and told that he will spend this money wisely on building a good house for his family and providing the best education to his children. He also expressed his gratitude to the Punjab Government and also thanked the lottery agency.
Prize of only Rs 1000 on wife’s ticket
Amit Sehra told NI that he had gone for a walk with a friend in Moga, Punjab. While there, he bought two lottery tickets. One for himself and one in his wife’s name. The special thing is that he had borrowed ₹ 1,000 from his friend to buy the ticket. But as luck would have it, his wife’s ticket fetched a prize of ₹1,000, while Sehra’s ticket fetched ₹11 crore. He also expressed his gratitude to his friend and said that our relationship is like that of brothers and will always remain unbroken.
Amit had bought tickets before but never won the prize. Mukesh had asked Amit to try his luck and Amit’s pocket was not ready for this, but on Mukesh’s repeated requests, Amit borrowed money and bought two tickets and also promised that if he won the prize of Rs 11 crore, he would give Rs 1 crore to Mukesh’s daughters. Sehra also told that he is a great devotee of Lord Hanuman and he has given the credit of his victory to the blessings of Lord Hanuman. He said that when he had bought the ticket, he just had faith in his mind that Hanuman ji would do everything right.
The results of this lottery came on 31 October. Amit’s lottery had started but he could not know about it due to his mobile being damaged. Mukesh tried his best to contact but could not talk. Then without any delay, Mukesh reached Amit’s house and gave him the good news of winning the lottery. Amit could not believe this. He said don’t joke. When asked again and the lottery ticket numbers were matched, they turned out to be exactly the same. On the other hand, the people of Kotputli initially thought it was a rumour, but were surprised when they came to know the reality. This story of his is now becoming increasingly viral on social media. Some people are saying that this is a miracle of luck and faith, while some people are also saying that the government will also have to pay money now.
How much money will the government have to pay?
Tax on lottery in India is under section 115BB and 194B of Income Tax. First of all, Punjab Lottery officials themselves deduct TDS. 30% tax on Rs 11 crore means Rs 3,30,00,000. After this, 4% health and education cess, i.e. tax of Rs 13,20,000. Now the total amount is Rs 3,43,20,000. Because Amit’s total income is more than Rs 11 crore, surcharge will be levied. 10% from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore, 15% from Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore, 25% from Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore, 37% above Rs 5 crore. Surcharge on lottery is applicable only on tax, in the highest slab.
You will get so much money after winning the lottery
Talking about calculation, base tax is Rs 3,30,00,000. Cess Rs 13,20,000, total surcharge before tax Rs 3,43,20,000. Now the surcharge on this is 37 percent, i.e. Rs 1,26,98,400. Total tax now Rs 3,43,20,000 + 1,26,98,400 = Rs 4,70,18,400. Meaning total tax is Rs 4 crore 70 lakh 18 thousand 400.
At the time of TDS, lottery offices deduct 31.2 percent because the surcharge is added to the ITR later. So first 31.2 percent i.e. Rs 3,43,20,000 will be deducted. Amit will get a total of Rs 7,56,80,000 by subtracting Rs 3,43,20,000 from Rs 11,00,00,000.
