West Champaran: The government school of district headquarters Bettiah is no less than a royal palace. This government school was established by the Bettiah dynasty in 1906 keeping in mind the future of education. In more than 120 years, this school has taken countless youth to heights that are difficult to even imagine. Be it the former Chief Minister of Bihar Kedar Pandey or the great poet Gopal Singh Nepali, these great personalities had received their primary education from this school. Presently this school is under the Government of Bihar and its name is ‘Raj Higher Secondary School’.
Bettiah Raj established in 1906
Principal in-charge of the school, Mohd. Imamul Haq tells that Raj Higher Secondary School was established by Bettiah Raj in 1906. The school campus is very big, in which thousands of students can study with modern facilities. At present there is a total enrollment of 2200 students, who come here every day to get education. In comparison to other government schools, the infrastructure of Raj Higher Secondary School is very good. From school courtyard to class room, everywhere you get to see artefacts and beauty like Raj Bhawan.
Equipped with royal glimpse and best facilities
School teacher Dr. Raj Kishore Ram says that there are separate buildings for computer lab and chemistry lab in the school premises. There is also a special building facility for art and cultural programs. Not only in Bihar, this Raj Inter College located in Bettiah is completely different and very special compared to any other government school in the country. Despite being more than 120 years old, there is not even a single scratch on the wall of any of the school buildings. When you come here, it feels like you are not in a government school, but in a royal palace.
Facility from 6th to 12th class
Teacher Mohd. Salauddin tells that initially studies were conducted here from class 7th to 12th, which was increased from class 9th to 12th. In the year 2025, under PM Shri Yojana, the facility of education from 6th to 12th was made available here. Only boys are given education in this branch of Raj Higher Secondary School. At present there are about 2200 students and 24 teachers. Another branch is operated for girls.
