Indian Railways- At present, the level of pollution has increased significantly in all the cities of the country. People here are also having trouble breathing. Meanwhile, Indian Railways has taken special steps to provide relief from this problem to some extent. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav inaugurated the scheme for containers and bulk cement terminals at Rail Bhawan.
New Delhi. In view of the increasing pollution in all the cities of the country including Delhi, Indian Railways has taken a big step. Under this, cement will be transported door to door by trains. This will help in reducing pollution and will also provide economic benefits to the common people. Railways has started this, let us know how this step will reduce pollution and how it will be beneficial for the common people?
Railways has designed the container under ‘Make in India’ with standard dimensions of 20 ft × 8 ft × 8.5 ft, which will have a payload capacity of 26 tonnes and will be able to transport a gross weight of 31 tonnes. Each container will be able to load and unload for only 25-30 minutes. Its design allows it to be easily transported from multi modal transport train to trailer and back to the train. With this, cement can be easily transported from factories to common consumers. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav inaugurated the scheme for containers and bulk cement terminals at Rail Bhavan.
This is how pollution happens now
Presently cement is also transported by trucks. It is thrown several times while transporting it from the cement factory to the consumer, due to which the cement flies, which spreads in the air. Besides, there is a lot of carbon emissions from trucks plying for transportation. In such a situation, cement transport causes pollution in two ways.
This way pollution will reduce
Transporting cement in containers by railways will result in significant reduction in carbon emissions as compared to road transport. This will help in environmental protection and reduce congestion on the roads. This will allow larger quantities of cement to be transported at one time, reducing packaging requirements, and will also reduce leakage (dust thrown up by tipping) of cement. This will reduce pollution and the quantity of cement will reach the common people in full quantity, because due to repeated dumping the cement gets reduced to less bags.
Cement will be available soon
The work of transporting cement will be completely mechanized, that is, loading and unloading can be done faster, due to which the cement will be able to reach the common people faster. Logistics efficiency increases.
