Railway Fare Hike: Indian Railways has increased the fare for long distance ordinary trains by one paise per kilometre, while for travel in mail and express trains, the fare has been increased by two paise per kilometre. This increased fare will be applicable in both non-AC and AC categories.
This is very important news for railway passengers. The increase in railway fares is going to be implemented from 26th December. This increase will mainly affect long distance journeys, while short distance travelers have been given relief. According to the Railways, the fare has not been increased for ordinary class journeys up to 215 kilometres, but if the distance covered is more than this, one paisa extra will have to be paid per kilometer in ordinary class.
For passengers traveling in mail and express trains, there has been an increase of two paise per kilometer in both non-AC and AC classes. Its effect will be that if a passenger travels a non-AC journey of 500 kilometers, he will have to pay about Rs 10 more fare than before.
How much more fare will have to be paid for Patna to Delhi?
This can be understood in this way that the distance from Patna to Delhi is about 1000 kilometers, thus in terms of the new fare, now you will have to pay Rs 10 more for traveling in Jan Sadharan Express, while in trains like Sampoorna Kranti, Vande Bharat and Rajdhani, you will have to pay Rs 20 more.
When was the fare increased before this?
Earlier, Indian Railways had also increased the fares for long distance trains including AC and non-AC Mail and Express from July 1. Then the fare of mail and express trains was increased by 1 paise per kilometer, while the fare for AC category was increased by 2 paise per kilometer. If we look at it this way, railway fares have been increased by 2 to 3 paise per kilometer in just one year.
Railways says that this fare adjustment is expected to generate additional income of about Rs 600 crore, which will be used to handle operational costs and improve passenger amenities. These new rates will be effective from December 26 and ticket booking will be done accordingly.
