Chandigarh. Jaswinder Singh Dhaliwal, the cousin brother of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in Chandigarh. The period of defection is continuing in Punjab as well. Recently many leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had joined BJP. Polling in the state is to be held on February 14.
On Tuesday itself, MLA Arvind Khanna, SAD leader Gurdeep Singh Gosha and Dharamvir Sarin had joined the BJP. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri got these leaders the membership of the party at the party office in the national capital. Earlier, SAD leaders Gurtej Singh Gundhiana, Kamal Bakshi, Madhumeet, Jagdeep Singh Dhaliwal, Rajdev Khalsi and former cricketer Dinesh Mongia have also joined the BJP.

The term of the Punjab Assembly ends in March. At the same time, elections are to be held in a single phase in the state. According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission on Saturday, the counting of votes will take place on March 10. In the year 2017 elections, Congress formed the government with 77 seats. At the same time, BJP got only 3 seats and SAD got 15 seats.
BSP appeals for change in election dates
According to the language, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Punjab unit president Jasvir Singh Garhi has urged the Election Commission to change the date of elections in the state in view of Guru Ravidas Jayanti. Gadhi said in a statement that on February 16 The 645th birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas will be celebrated every year and like every year thousands of followers of the Guru will travel to Govardhanpur, the birthplace of the Guru, which is located in Varanasi (Banaras) by special trains from Punjab, especially from the Doaba region, on February 13-14. Garhi said that due to this they will not be able to vote, so the date of voting should be changed from February 14 to February 20.
