Gumla: It is said that if you have the passion to do something in your heart and your courage is high, then whatever the circumstances may be, it does not matter. This thing fits Sukhnath Mahato, a person from Gumla district. Let us tell you that Sukhnath Mahato is a resident of Mahadaniya Tola of Ghaghra block of Gumla district. He works as a compounder in a private hospital, but when he started facing problems in running the family, he thought of doing pig farming along with it. And he started pig farming with just one pig and today he is earning Rs 4 lakh annually from the pig sitting at home. Along with this, he is also taking good care of his family.
Pig farmer Sukhnath Mahato told Local 18 that he is a resident of Mahadania Tona Block Chowk of Ghaghra Block of Gumla District. He works as a compounder in a private hospital. There was less income in this, so considering the responsibility of running the family and the expenses of children’s education, I thought of doing some business. Then the problem came that which business should I do, which business should I do, which will give good income.
There was less profit in goat rearing
Sukhnath Mahato told that when he started goat rearing in this way, he saw that the goat gives birth twice a year and gives birth to only two to three children at a time. At the same time, a pig gives birth to babies twice a year, but she also gives birth to 8, 10, 12, 16 babies at a time. However, his pig has also given birth to 16 babies at a time. In such a situation, it came to his mind that a pig gives more children. Therefore why not start pig farming again.
One pig is sold for up to Rs 35,000
Sukhnath Mahato told that a pig gives birth to at least 8 babies in one go, and if it gives birth twice in a year, then the total becomes 16 babies. Where even if a piglet is kept for just 2 months and sold, one can easily get ₹ 5000. At the same time, a pig is ready in 8 to 10 months. And one pig is easily available for Rs 25 to 35 thousand. Earlier, he was rearing pigs as a villager, but after taking training from Bank of India Rural Self-Employment Institute (RSETI) located in Silam, Gumla, he is rearing pigs well under the guidance of Sunita Madam. Now PND is earning good income by rearing pigs.
Sell 100 pigs a year
At the same time, before taking training, they used to rear rural pigs which give four to five calves at a time and PND pigs give 8 to 10 calves at a time. Where a rural pig used to gain around 40 kg in a year. At the same time, in case of PND, it gains 100 to 120 kg in one year. However, whenever a pig falls ill, it is able to take medicine and treatment on its own, due to which the pig does not die. He sells 80/90 piglets in a year and 15/20 of the older ones, which brings his annual income to Rs 4 lakh.
He told that earlier, whenever there was some problem at home, he used to remain worried, but now when he does not have money to go to a wedding or any program, he sells a pig. This also gets their work done. Now his house is also running well. Apart from this, we are also able to provide good education to the children. He is rearing these pigs at home in only 6 decimals of land.
