Meet the famous personalities of Ghaziabad who have brought glory to the city with their work and contribution. MP Atul Garg is known for the development of the city, while 1971 Indo-Pak war Vir Chakra winner Colonel T.P. Tyagi is still active in social service. International cricketer Suresh Raina increased the identity of Ghaziabad on the sports field. At the same time, environmentalist Vijaypal Baghel and female entrepreneur Manju Kashyap have set an example in environmental protection and farming respectively.
Atul Garg, Lok Sabha MP from Ghaziabad, was born on 26 August 1957 in Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh). His father Dinesh Chandra Garg was the first mayor of Ghaziabad. In 2017, he was elected MLA from Ghaziabad assembly seat on BJP ticket and became Minister of State in the Uttar Pradesh government. In the 2022 assembly elections, Atul Garg again became MLA from the same assembly seat. Then in 2024, he became the Lok Sabha MP for the first time and is now serving the public as the MP of Ghaziabad.
Ghaziabad’s Colonel T.P. Tyagi is one of those brave officers of the Indian Army who showed his bravery in the Indo-Pak war of 1971. For his indomitable courage, leadership and patriotism displayed in the war, he was awarded major military honors like Vir Chakra. His achievements made him a respected personality in both the army and civil society. After retirement from the army, Colonel Tyagi made Ghaziabad his workplace and is now serving the public as RWA President. He is continuously making efforts for the security of colonies, cleanliness, development of parks and improving civic amenities. Even today, Colonel Tyagi remains an example of discipline, dedication and social leadership.
Suresh Raina is counted among the most reliable batsmen of Indian cricket. He was born on 27 November 1986 in Muradnagar, Ghaziabad. It was from here that he started cricket and made a place in the UP team at an early age. Raina played in all three formats for Team India and became the first Indian to score a century in T-20 International. He was also a part of the World Cup 2011 winning Indian team. He has a special attachment to Ghaziabad and he often inspires the young players here. Suresh Raina is still a role model for the youth for his hard work, fitness and aggressive batting.

Ghaziabad’s environmentalist Vijaypal Singh Baghel, whom people call ‘Green Man’, is famous for saving lakhs of trees and planting lakhs of saplings. He has saved more than 10 lakh trees from being cut. His work has been appreciated by the Government of India and the public. In 2020, a postage stamp was also issued in his name and he received many honours. Baghel preserved trees by changing the routes of projects like Ganga Expressway and also participated in environmental programs in the country and abroad. He has a distinct identity because of wearing green clothes and he keeps motivating people to plant trees.
Manju Kashyap of Duhai village of Ghaziabad has today become a great example of women self-reliance. By building a pond in the industrial area, she started integrated fish farming and water chestnut farming, from which she is earning lakhs of rupees annually. For this reason people also know her by the name of ‘Farm Lady’. In view of his innovation and hard work, he has been honored with the National Award. In August 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised his initiative and passion. Manju Kashyap is an inspiration for those women who want to make a new beginning with their hard work.
