Prayagraj News: DCM was taking CNG supply from Prayagraj to Varanasi. There was a technical fault in a part of the cascade system installed in the vehicle, due to which there was sudden leakage of gas. As soon as they heard the sound of gas coming out, the people nearby got scared and started running away from there.
Prayagraj: There was a stir in Sarai Inayat police station area of Ganganagar zone late on Thursday night when CNG gas suddenly started leaking in Hanumanganj market. This incident happened on the Prayagraj-Varanasi Highway in front of the Bahadurpur Block Headquarters, when suddenly gas started coming out with a loud noise from a DCM vehicle. Within a few seconds, the entire area was filled with mist-like gas and people started running here and there in panic.
According to the information, a DCM was carrying CNG supply from Prayagraj to Varanasi. There was a technical fault in a part of the cascade system installed in the vehicle, due to which there was sudden leakage of gas. As soon as they heard the sound of gas coming out, nearby shopkeepers closed their shops and started running towards safe places. Within no time the entire market was covered with gas mist and great panic spread among the people.
Vigilance continues due to possibility of major accident
As soon as information about the incident was received, Sarai Inayat police station reached the spot and tried to control the situation. The police immediately diverted the traffic on the highway to avoid any accident. According to the local people, if there had been a spark or electric spark anywhere during this period, a major accident could have occurred, but due to vigilance, the situation was controlled in time.
When CNG leakage continued, the police, with the help of experts, got the gas safely released from the vehicle. After some time the leakage was controlled and the situation started becoming normal. After the gas was completely released, the officials took the DCM vehicle to a safe place outside the town and got it checked. After the situation came under control, the police sent the DCM further to Varanasi.
Demand raised for regular inspection of vehicles
There was no loss of life or damage to property during this incident, but an atmosphere of panic remained among the people for a long time. Traders of Hanumanganj market kept their establishments closed at night as a precautionary measure. Local residents have demanded that vehicles carrying such heavy and dangerous materials should be regularly checked, so that such incidents can be avoided in future. At present the police is investigating the matter and the reason for the malfunction in the cascade system is being ascertained.
