New Delhi. India’s maritime power is at new heights. Such a scene was seen at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilding Limited (MDL) in Mumbai on Friday, which further strengthened the blue borders of the Indian Navy. The fourth advanced stealth frigate ‘Taragiri’ of the indigenous Nilgiri-class (Project 17A) was formally handed over to the Navy, adding another bright star to the maritime campaign of self-reliant India.
New incarnation of old bravery
‘Taragiri’ is not an ordinary warship. This is the modern rebirth story of the historic INS Taragiri, which brought glory to the Indian Navy from 1980 to 2013. Taking forward the legacy of its previous generation, the new Taragiri is equipped with stealth technology, high lethality and automation. This is a ship that can silently cross the surface of the sea, remain out of sight of the enemy and can attack in a moment.
Not a ship, but a mobile fortress
Designed by the Warship Design Bureau (WDB) and built under the close supervision of the Warship Overseeing Team, this frigate is a floating fortress loaded with modern weapons.
It contains-
BrahMos supersonic missile system,
MF-Star Radar,
Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile,
Also 76mm, SRGM, 30mm and 12.7mm close-in weapon systems.
Anti-submarine rockets and torpedoes have also been installed in it to defeat enemy submarines. The ship’s propulsion system is based on state-of-the-art CODOG technology, which combines a diesel engine and a gas turbine. Speed, silence and terrifying power, it has all three.
Taragiri is 75% indigenization
This is the fourth frigate among the P17A class ships being received by the Navy. The special thing is that its construction time was 81 months less than the previous warships. This is not just an improvement in shipbuilding, but is a living proof of India’s rapidly increasing industrial efficiency. 75 percent indigenization has taken place in this project. More than 200 MSMEs contributed in this, providing direct employment to more than 4,000 people and indirect employment to more than 10,000. Taragiri not only increases the strength of the Navy but it is also a symbol of the economic and technological progress of the country.
