Mohd Sarfaraz Alam/Saharsa: This news is very important for the farmers associated with Makhana production in Saharsa district of Bihar. Now the years old hassle of breaking Makhana is about to end. For this, a new Makhana popping machine has come in the market. This machine has brought a revolution in the field of Makhana. This machine completes the difficult and time-consuming task of plucking makhana using the traditional method in minutes. Earlier the work of breaking the Makhana was done by labourers, which required a lot of time, effort and cost. Now with the advent of this machine, this process has become easy, fast and completely automated. With this, the work of Makhana farmers has become easier.
Through the machine, the farmer puts the raw makhana directly into the machine and prepares the makhana from the other side, after which crunchy and clean makhana comes out. As production capacity increases, quality also improves. This is the reason why this machine is gradually taking the market by storm and is becoming popular among makhana producers. Regarding this matter, Deputy Director of Agricultural Engineering Branch of District Agriculture Department, Ritesh Ranjan said that this machine is proving to be very useful and beneficial for the Makhana industry. He told that the price of one Makhana popping machine in the market is around Rs 3 lakh. This price may seem a bit high for small and medium-scale farmers, but the government is also giving grants to help the farmers.
Under the government scheme, farmers are being provided a grant of Rs 1,40,000 to Rs 1,60,000 on this machine. This amount of grant covers almost half of the total cost of purchasing the machine, making it quite easy for farmers to purchase this machine. The objective of this assistance is to make the Makhana industry technologically advanced and to connect farmers with modern equipment.
Deputy Director Ritesh Ranjan said that a total target of 7 units has been set for this machine in Saharsa district. Such farmers of the district who are associated with Makhana production and want to take advantage of this machine can contact the Agriculture Department and apply. There can be a significant increase in the income of farmers with the use of Makhana popping machine. In comparison to traditional plucking, machine prepared makhana is more precise, uniform and of good quality, which fetches better prices in the market. Also, due to less time taken in production, farmers can prepare makhana in larger quantities and supply it in big markets.
