Saharanpur: Under the zero tolerance policy of the Uttar Pradesh government, the police has intensified the campaign against Bangladeshi and Rohingya people living illegally in the district. In this sequence, Saharanpur Police is running ‘Operation Torch’ at night. The focus of this campaign, which was started after the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is on thorough investigation of people living in roadside slums, railway stations, bus stands and temporary shelters.
Police say that the number of outsiders in the city is continuously increasing, hence it is being ensured that no person stays in the district without valid identity, documents and verification. During the campaign, people who came illegally from Bangladesh and such people of Rohingya community are also being investigated. The aim of the police is to strengthen the security and ensure verification of every person living in the district, so that any criminal activity or illegal migration can be controlled in time.
Operation started after intelligence input
For some time now, the movement of outsiders has increased rapidly in Saharanpur district, due to which the identity of many persons living temporarily in slums, vacant plots and public places was not clear. After intelligence input, the administration feared that such places could become hiding places for infiltrators or elements involved in criminal activities. In view of the increasing number of people entering the country illegally, the government has decided to initiate special action.
