After completing the Agribusiness Management course, he decided to adopt modern technologies and improved seeds instead of traditional farming. This thinking attracted him to a new and improved variety of ladyfinger, VNR VBH 980. Ashutosh explains that this is an early maturing variety of ladyfinger, which becomes harvestable within 40 to 50 days of sowing the seeds. This is a dwarf variety, whose plants attain a height of 4 to 5 feet. The distance between nodes of this variety is less, due to which plants bear more fruits and the total yield increases. Its fruits are also easy to pluck. Ashutosh explains that its okra can be plucked by just bending it lightly, which makes the plucking task faster and easier.

The biggest problem for farmers is the infection of Yellow Mosaic Virus (YMV) in the okra crop, but VNR VBH 980 variety is tolerant to this virus. This means that this variety is not affected by YMV, due to which both the quality and production of the crop remains safe. Ashutosh says that if farmers keep doing regular irrigation, balanced fertilizer and organic care, then this variety of ladyfinger grows very fast. This ladyfinger is ready 2 to 4 days earlier than other varieties, due to which good prices can be achieved by delivering the goods to the market quickly.
Supply till Chhattisgarh
Another important feature of this variety is that if the crop is taken care of properly, it can be harvested 30 to 40 times. Ashutosh says that its price in the market is Rs 40 to 50 per kg. Due to this, the farmer gets continuous income from the same field for a long time. I am just coming back from selling this ladyfinger in Chhattisgarh.
