Peru Political Crisis- Demonstration intensified in Peru, 53 people died, heavy police force deployed in the capital

lima, Thousands of police officers have been deployed in the capital Lima after hundreds of protesters marched towards the city center amid ongoing violent demonstrations in Peru. Fierce clashes took place in the southern city of Arequipa. According to the report of CNN, the number of people dying daily in this demonstration which started after the political upheaval is increasing. At least 53 people have died and 772 others have been injured since Peru’s protest movement began in December, the national ombudsman’s office said on Thursday.

Since the removal of former President Pedro Castillo, there has been continuous conflict between the security forces and the protesters. According to reports, the government has announced a curfew in the southern Puno region to quell violent protests following ongoing clashes between protesters and security forces. However, despite the curfew, on Thursday, protesters marched in many places and demanded the resignation of President Dina Boluarte. The protesters are demanding the holding of general elections as soon as possible.

Police is attacking with weapons
General Victor Sanabria, head of Peru’s national police for the Lima region, told local media that 11,800 policemen were deployed in Lima, which held key places such as the parliament, the prosecutor’s office, selected TV stations, the Supreme Court and army headquarters. The authorities have been accused of using excessive force against protesters, including guns, in recent weeks. Autopsies of 17 civilians killed during protests in the city of Juliaca have found gunshot wounds.
