There is such a unique temple in Japan, where people write letters and perform special worship in the hope of getting their wishes related to hair fulfilled. The story of this place told by the traveler is much discussed these days. It is believed that prayer here provides relief from problems related to hair health.
People suffering from the problem of baldness and hair fall around the world adopt various types of treatments and remedies, but in Japan there is a unique center of faith related to it. Near the famous Arashiyama Bamboo Forest located in Kyoto city of Japan, there is a temple named Mikami Shrine, which is considered very special for hair related wishes. This is the only temple in the world which is completely dedicated to hair. Here, people suffering from baldness write letters and make a wish that their hair related problems go away.
Mikami Shrine is dedicated to Lord Kami i.e. Fujiwara Unmenosuke Masayuki. It is believed that Fujiwara Masayuki was the first hairdresser of Japan. He was so famous for hair care and hairstyle in his time that people started considering him as a god. For hundreds of years after his death, barbers and hair salons in Japan closed their shops on the 17th of every month, the anniversary of his death. This tradition is considered a symbol of respect and reverence towards him.
Even today, many barbers, hair stylists and beauty experts of Japan come to this temple to seek blessings. Especially those people who are going to appear for the National Barber or Beautician examination, definitely come here for darshan. Apart from this, people who have problems related to hair fall, thinning hair, premature baldness or hair growth also come to this temple with their wishes.
The method of worship at Mikami Shrine is also completely different from other temples. Here the devotees first buy a special prayer envelope. After this, the priest of the temple cuts a small lock of hair from the head of the devotee and keeps it in the same envelope. Then the person prays to Lord Masayuki for the health and well-being of his hair. After the puja, this envelope is handed back to the priest, who says special prayers for the well-being of the hair and the fulfillment of the person’s wish.
