Faridabad: The anger of the local people against the dumping yard located in Faridabad Sector 56 Pratapgarh was once again visible on the streets. A large number of people took out a candle march to protest against this garbage house. This protest is not new, but exactly one year ago on 1 December 2024, a candle march was taken out against the same dumping yard. Even then people had clearly said that their life has become difficult because of this garbage house, but even after a year has passed, the situation remains the same.
During the candle march, local people openly expressed their pain while talking to Local18. People say that they are continuously contacting the administration, municipal corporation and public representatives demanding the removal of this dumping yard, but no concrete action is being taken from anywhere. The matter is currently going on in NGT (National Green Tribunal), but there too dates are being given. People allege that the government and administration are not ready to listen to their voices.
Local residents told that they have gone to Union Minister Krishna Pal Gurjar with their problems 5-6 times, but every time they got only assurance. The matter is postponed by saying that talks are going on with the Commissioner. On the other hand, the work of dumping garbage in the dumping yard continued continuously. People say that when the protests calmed down for some time, 50 to 60 dumpers started coming here day and night to dump garbage.
Recently, 2-4 days ago, some women and men together stopped the dumpers and the truth came to light. On investigation, it was found that only 5 vehicles of MCF (Municipal Corporation Faridabad) were authorized, whose numbers were also shown to the local people. Apart from this, all the other dumpers were coming to dump garbage without permission and disregarding the rules. Angered by this, people decided to protest again on a large scale.
Thousands of people participated in the candle march. The march started from the CIA office in Sector 56 and reached Atal Park (near JCB Company) via Rajiv Colony Chungi. People holding candles in their hands were raising slogans like remove the dumping yard, we want clean air. The atmosphere during the march was completely peaceful but the anger of the people was clearly visible.
After the candle march, more than 200 people reached the police post of Sector 55 and gave a written complaint to lodge an FIR against MCF. People allege that the Municipal Corporation is acting arbitrarily and the rules are being openly violated. Police has assured people that FIR will be registered within 2 to 4 days.
Rekha, who participated in this candle march, said while talking to Local18 that because of this garbage house, the condition of children and elderly people is the worst. The garbage should be removed from here, we are very worried… he said. Asha Sharma told that she is having great difficulty in breathing. It has been three years since garbage has been dumped here. Children are falling ill, even food is not eaten… He told his problems.
Shahina said that garbage is being dumped here continuously for about two and a half to three years and it has become difficult to live due to the bad smell and poisonous air. Another woman named Asha told that poison has dissolved in the air. It has become difficult to breathe even with the windows and doors closed. The leaders gave false assurances and we were forced to take to the streets today. Now we will save our house ourselves, he said.
Bharti also told that people have been troubled for more than two and a half years but now patience has paid off. Today we have come on the road and are not going to back down now, he said in clear words.
Deepak Panchal told that thousands of people participated in this candle march. Many areas including Sector 56, Gochi, Dilip Colony, Shivam Enclave, Ramnagar, Rajiv Colony, Village Samaspur and Village Pratapgarh are directly affected by this dumping yard. No matter what happens, they will die only by getting this dumping yard removed because because of this their daily life has become hell.
