Raipur News: Under the Social Security Pension Scheme, a pension amount of Rs 500 is given every month to eligible disabled people. This amount may seem small but it is proving to be a big relief for rural and needy families.
Raipur. The Social Security Pension Scheme run by the Government of Chhattisgarh for the disabled is working to support the lives of the needy. While giving information about this scheme, Deputy Director of Social Welfare Department, Ajay Gedam told Local 18 that all the eligible disabled people living in the state should definitely take the benefit of this scheme. This scheme is an important step towards meeting the daily needs of the disabled and making them self-reliant. According to Ajay Gedam, disabled persons aged 18 years or above are eligible to apply under this scheme. Along with this, those disabled children aged between 6 to 14 years, who are studying in any school, can also apply for this Social Security Pension Scheme. It is clear from this that the aim of the government is to secure the future of disabled children by providing them financial support right from childhood.
He said that to make the application process simple and reach the rural level, it has been kept at the Gram Panchayat level. Disabled persons or their family members can apply by going to the Gram Panchayat of their village. After verification from Gram Panchayat, the application is sent to District Panchayat. After getting approval from there, the amount is transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiary by the Social Welfare Department. This entire process is done through DBT i.e. Direct Benefit Transfer, which eliminates any kind of middleman system.
Pension of Rs 500 every month
He further said that under the scheme, eligible disabled persons are provided a pension amount of Rs 500 per month. This amount may seem small but it is proving to be a big relief for rural and needy families. With this amount, disabled people are able to fulfill their medicine, travel, studies or daily needs. Especially in rural areas, this pension has become a reliable source of regular income for disabled families. The main objective of the government behind this scheme is to help the disabled people run their lives smoothly so that they can remain connected to the mainstream of the society. He said that many times due to lack of information, eligible people are not able to take advantage of the scheme, hence the Social Welfare Department is continuously running awareness campaigns.
