Prashar Lake Himachal: There are some places on the peaks of Himachal, where a special peace envelops the mind as soon as you step into them. The movement of clouds everywhere, sudden rain, strong wind and the sky changing every moment, the Parashar Temple standing amidst all this gives a wonderful experience. This temple is situated at a height away from the market, where upon reaching, it seems as if nature has carved every color here. The cool breeze rising from the slopes of the mountains, the peaceful atmosphere near the lake and the sacred form of the temple made of wood touches the mind deeply. The most special thing about this temple is that it is built from only one cedar tree. According to legend, the construction was done by a child and spider web-like lines started emerging on the wood. The entire structure was prepared by carving these lines like art. Wooden temples are seen in the Himalayan regions, but the beauty and style of this temple is completely different.
It is not easy to step here during winter. The surrounding hills are covered in snow. Sometimes even the roof and stairs of the temple get filled with snow. Still, people come from far and wide, because the peace of mind they get after reaching here makes them sacrifice all the weather. The peaceful environment, the floating lake and the history of Rishi Parashar together make this place very unique.
Amazing pagoda style construction
Located at a distance of about 45–48 kilometers from Mandi city, this temple is built in a pagoda structure. This three-storey structure looks very attractive. Wooden carvings, artistic pillars and roofs make it a unique example of Himalayan architecture. It is believed that this entire structure was made from the huge trunk of just one cedar. The fact that it took 12 days to complete still surprises people.
Parashar Lake and Floating Plot
Parashar Lake is situated right near the temple, in the middle of which there is a floating plot. This plot sometimes goes one way, sometimes the other. Local people connect it with divine power. The depth of the lake has not been known till date, which makes it more mysterious.

This place is at such a height that the weather cannot be trusted. Suddenly clouds gather, it starts raining and within a few minutes the fog covers everything. This change makes it more beautiful. It is easy to reach here in summer, but in winter the roads are filled with snow, yet devotees reach the temple on foot.
Knowledge and story of Maharishi Parashar
Sage Parashar is known for his prodigious knowledge in astrology, religion, Ayurveda, Vastu and many other subjects. His books are considered relevant even today. A legend says that sage Parashar was searching for a suitable place for meditation. Wherever he went, water would come out. Finally, when he came here and meditated, a lake was formed at this place, which is today called Parashar Lake.

A stone idol of Rishi Parashar is installed in the inner part of the temple. Besides, statues of Vishnu, Shiva and Mahishamardini Devi are also present. The combination of wood and stone gives this place a unique spiritual experience.
Fairs and folk culture
Two big fairs are held every year near the lake. A huge crowd gathers here during the time of Holi and on Panchami of Bhadrapada month. Drums, jagrans and bhandaras turn this place into a festival.

-Air route: Nearest airport is Kullu-Manali (about 52 km).
-Railway: Nearest station is Shimla or Chandigarh.
-Road: Bus and taxi facilities are easily available from Mandi. Parking is also available a hundred meters below the temple.
