New Delhi. India and America have intensified their fight against terrorism. Both the countries have now decided to target proxy groups of terrorist organizations. This important issue dominated the meeting of the Anti-Terrorism Working Group. India and America have called on the United Nations Security Council to ban the proxy organizations of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. Their aim is clear to crack down on the terrorists working by changing their names. In the meeting, both sides also emphasized on joint action against groups like ISIS and Al-Qaeda. India thanked America for declaring ‘The Resistance Front’ or TRF as a terrorist organization. This step reflects the growing security partnership between the two countries.
Emphasis on increasing cooperation between UN and FATF: In the meeting, both sides agreed that not just bilateral but collective action is necessary to fight terrorism. This battle must be fought continuously and comprehensively. India and America promised to increase their cooperation in the United Nations, Quad and Financial Action Task Force i.e. FATF. The objective is that terrorists should not find shelter anywhere at the international level. This unity on multilateral platforms will be helpful in putting pressure on those countries that nurture terrorism. Both countries will now work more on sharing intelligence information.
There will be a ban on property and travel of terrorists: The main focus of the talks was the UN’s 1267 sanctions list. Both the countries demanded to include more terrorists in this list. Apart from Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, their proxy groups are also included in this. Besides, their supporters, sponsors and financiers will also not be spared. If these organizations come in the list then strict restrictions will be imposed on them. His assets will be frozen. Apart from this, there will be travel ban and ban on purchasing weapons. This will break his back.
India praised American action on TRF: In this meeting, India appreciated a special step taken by America. America has recently declared ‘The Resistance Front’ or TRF as a foreign terrorist organization. It has also been included in the list of Specially Designated Global Terrorist. TRF is actually a proxy group of Lashkar which is active in Kashmir. India thanked the US State Department for this decision. This shows that the thinking of both the countries regarding terrorism is now the same. Both the countries have now started recognizing every form of terrorists.
