New Delhi: A strange incident was witnessed at Delhi-based Dharamshila Narayan Superspeciality. A 32-year-old woman had abdominal heaviness for the past one year. He also consulted some doctors for its treatment, but in response he came to know that the main reason for heaviness in the stomach could be due to some hormonal changes. But the woman did not know that she had a 22 kg cancerous tumor in her stomach. Doctors at Dharamshila Narayan Superspeciality Hospital successfully operated on a 22 kg tumor from the abdomen of a 32-year-old woman. It was learned from the sources that it was a big task for the doctor’s team to save the woman’s uterus and ovaries while performing the operation. However, now the woman will not have any problem in getting pregnant because both her uterus and ovaries are safe.
No effect of change in diet
The 32-year-old woman, on the condition of not disclosing her identity, told that she was feeling changes in the stomach with some heaviness since 9 months. Some doctors attributed this to hormonal changes. Gynae-oncologist Dr. Satinder Kaur, who performed the successful surgery on the woman, said, “She was surprised as to how the woman had become weak and malnourished due to such a huge tumor inside her abdomen.” Dr Kaur said, ‘I had undergone surgery for ovarian cancer in the past as well, but never had one this large in size.’ He said that luckily it was detected at the first stage of cancer itself, so that we could save the woman’s uterus and ovaries.
Shocking reports in the investigation
In the beginning, the woman started paying attention to food and eating fruits, first there was a decrease in weight, but after a few days again she started feeling as if her stomach would burst. So the woman reached this hospital for a checkup. When her ultrasound and some other tests were done, she came to know about the risk of ovarian cancer. The woman was deeply shocked by this news. She felt that now she would never be able to become a mother. Dr. Kaur, who performed the woman’s surgery, said, “The 22 kg cancerous tumor in the woman’s stomach was detected in time.” After examination, a team of 4 surgeons led by Dr. Kaur, along with a team of anesthesiologists, performed a three-hour long surgery, in which the tumor was successfully removed from the abdomen, saving the uterus and one ovary.
Hormonal function normal, mother can also become
Dr. Kaur’s team successfully operated on the woman and also took the woman’s uterus and ovaries. A woman can also become a mother in future. The doctor told that we had recognized the symptoms of cancer in the woman in time. However, in patients with the first stage of any type of cancer, the chances of it happening again are less than 10 percent. Since the woman’s surgery was done last month, as per protocol, the woman continued to visit the hospital for follow-up checkups every three months.
