New Delhi. Indian Railways is going to make OTP mandatory for window Tatkal tickets. That is, during booking in the window, you will fill the mobile number in the form. The booking clerk will enter your mobile number while applying, after which OTP will come. You will tell this to the booking clerk, after verification your Tatkal ticket will be generated. The big question arising here is that those who do not keep a mobile. How will they take Tatkal ticket window? In this regard, Railways has given three methods, which are important to know.
Railways is soon going to make OTP mandatory for window tatkal tickets of all trains. Its objective is to tighten the noose on those who unfairly take advantage of the instant facility. Earlier, similar rules have been implemented for online tickets. That means you cannot book Tatkal ticket without OTP.
Its objective is to stop misuse of Tatkal ticket facility and touts, as well as to make tickets easily available to common passengers. Railways made Aadhaar-based linking mandatory for online tatkal booking in July this year. This means that without OTP, you cannot book tickets in any way, online or offline.
What are the three methods?
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director, Information and Propagation, Railway Ministry, said that OTP is being made mandatory to provide relief to passengers and to prevent unauthorized people from taking tickets. He said that nowadays most of the people, be it city or village, are using mobile phones.
- If someone does not have a mobile and is going to book a window ticket, then take the mobile phone of one of your relatives.
- If not, then put the number of someone you know in the ticket and ask for OTP from him.
- If this facility is not available then the number of someone standing in the queue who does not want to book a Tatkal ticket can be entered there. In this way window tickets can be booked.
What are the first orders for online
In the order issued by IRCTC, from July 1, 2025, Tatkal tickets on IRCTC website or mobile app will be available only to those passengers whose Aadhaar has already been linked and verified with the IRCTC account. You can link this easily. For this, users get the option to add Aadhaar in the profile section.
Is OTP necessary in online?
An additional Aadhaar based OTP verification has also been made mandatory during Tatkal ticket booking from July 15, 2025. That means OTP will come on the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar and without entering it the booking will not proceed. Indian Railways has given these instructions to stop brokers.
