on my own strength
Under Jal Jeevan Mission, tap water project in every house was started in Bundelkhand. The project worth thousands of crores started under Jal Jeevan Mission had a tremendous impact in Bundelkhand. The decades-old suffering of the women here went away when tap water started coming to their homes. The wandering of women for several kilometers in search of water has almost stopped now. This was a matter of government arrangements. Now let us tell you about those women who on their own revived the water sources in Bundelkhand and filled them again.
first understand the methods
Water crisis continued in Jhansi district for many decades. Babina block in particular remained in the dark zone for many decades. Simrawari is a village under Babina block. Two women living in this village are Meera and Meena. There was a huge water crisis in the village of these two women. The women of the village were forced to wander for many kilometers in search of water. Meera and Meena started trying to solve the water crisis in their village. Both of them crossed the threshold of their homes and joined an organization which was working on water for many years. Meera and Meena joined this organization and understood the methods of saving water. Meera and Meena cleaned the pond, the biggest source of water in the village, with their hard work. Also deepened the pond. Seeing both of them working, other women also came out. Meera and Meena came to be known as Jal Saheli. Once these two water friends of Jhansi started working for water conservation, there was no looking back.
PM Modi also a fan, reached UN
Both the women, residents of Babina development block, included many more women in their organization ‘Jal Saheli’. After this, he labored for 6 days to revive the Ghurari river. Hundreds of water friends cleaned the river. Monsoon rains occurred and the water level of the river increased. Jal Saheli first filled hundreds of sacks with sand and made a check dam. The rain water stopped in these check demos, after which the river got filled to the brim with water. This organization, which started with two Jal Saheli, now has thousands of Jal Saheli working together. Prime Minister Modi has also mentioned the story of Jal Saheli in his Mann Ki Baat programme. These Jal Sahelis also shared their experience in the field of water conservation in the United Nations.
