Kolkata. Suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir on Sunday said he will organize ‘Quran Khawani’ (recitation of Quran) with one lakh people in February. A group of saints and spiritual gurus have organized Bhagavad Gita recitation with five lakh people in Bengal.
Kabir, who laid the foundation stone of a mosque on the lines of Ayodhya’s Babri Masjid in Murshidabad district on Saturday, said he will provide a feast of meat and rice to all the participants. “I will organize ‘Quran Khwani’ with one lakh people in February,” he told reporters at Rezinagar in Murshidabad district. Kabir said, “After this, the construction work of Babri Masjid will begin.”
‘Sanatan Sanskriti Sansad’, a group of saints and spiritual gurus from various monasteries and Hindu religious institutions, has organized a ‘Geeta Path with five lakh people’ program at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. The spiritual leadership of this program is being led by Swami Gyananandji Maharaj of Geeta Manishi Mahamandal, while many prominent sadhus including yoga guru Baba Ramdev have been invited for the program.
According to reports, this event comes a day after suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone of a mosque on the lines of the politically motivated ‘Babri Masjid’ in Murshidabad. The incident underlines how questions of faith and identity are increasingly converging in West Bengal’s public sphere ahead of assembly elections early next year.
Before the Lok Sabha elections in December 2023, a similar ‘one lakh swaras’ Gita recitation program was organized in ‘Brigade’. Exactly two years after this, today i.e. on Sunday, this program named ‘Panch Lakhon Konthe Geeta Path’ has been organized. This program had triggered a political controversy in which the ruling TMC accused the BJP of polarizing using religion.
