IMD Weather News: India is one of the few countries in the world where diverse forms of weather are seen. People here have to face everything from scorching heat to torrential rains and bone-chilling cold. At present, North and Eastern India is in the grip of severe cold. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert of dense fog for more than a dozen states. The transport system has broken down due to fog.
IMD Weather News: These days the weather has become harsh in various areas of India. Cold has engulfed North India as well as many states of Eastern and Central India. The Meteorological Department has said that the minimum and maximum temperatures will fall further in the coming times. Also, a warning has been issued of dense to very dense fog from Punjab to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Bengal and Odisha. People traveling have been advised to be especially careful. Due to dense fog, public and private transport systems have also been adversely affected. Trains are running late from time. Due to low visibility, the speed of vehicles on the roads has also stopped. Recently, due to fog, there was a serious accident on Yamuna Expressway of Delhi-NCR. The people of the country’s capital are facing the double blow of the weather. One is cold and second is air pollution. On Thursday 18 December 2025, AQI 406 was recorded in Anand Vihar area of the National Capital, which falls in the severe category from health point of view. Despite all the efforts of the government, it is proving very difficult to control air pollution in Delhi-NCR. On the other hand, Cyclone Bakung, active in East Asia, is likely to impact some states of South India as well.
The weather conditions remain harsh in many parts of the country. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of dense to very dense fog in many states of North India and Northeast India between 18 and 22 December. Along with this, cold wave and cold day conditions may also persist in some areas. The Meteorological Department has said that dense to very dense fog can be seen in the morning and early hours in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana from 18 to 20 December. There is a possibility of fog at some places in Uttar Pradesh on 21st December also. Whereas in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, there may be effect of fog in different areas on 21st and 22nd December. There is a possibility of dense fog in some parts of Uttarakhand between December 18 and 21. Apart from this, dense fog may also occur in Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha in the morning during 18 to 20 December. The effect of fog is expected to persist in different areas in the states of North-East India from 18 to 22 December.

IMD warning
The weather department has also issued a warning regarding cold. There is a possibility of cold wave in Western Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand on 18 and 19 December. At the same time, during these two days in Uttar Pradesh, a ‘cold day’ situation may occur in some areas, due to which a drop in day temperature will be recorded. Talking about the minimum temperature, there will be no significant change in the temperature in North-West India for the next two days. After this, the minimum temperature may gradually increase by about 2 degrees Celsius in two days. There is little possibility of change in minimum temperature in Maharashtra for the next three days, while after this there may be an increase of 2 to 3 degrees. The minimum temperature in Gujarat is likely to increase by 2 to 3 degrees in the next three days. No major change in temperature is expected for the next seven days in the rest of the country. The Meteorological Department has advised people to be careful during fog, especially while driving. In view of the cold and cold wave, the elderly, children and sick people need to take special care.
