The rats have worried the temple authorities by tearing at the clothes of the siblings Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra. Expressing concern, the sevadars said that the rats have posed a threat to the things around the sanctum sanctorum and the wooden idols of deities. Satyanarayan Pushpalak, a sevadar, said, ‘We have found it difficult to perform daily puja and rituals amid the rats and their waste. Every day, they are destroying the clothes and garlands of the deities. Besides, the rats are spoiling the face of the gods.’
