To ensure the security of the hospital and cantonment in Landour area, oak trees were planted so that the privacy of the area is maintained.
Environmental importance of oak trees
Oak and pine trees further enhance the natural beauty of Mussoorie. These trees not only maintain the greenery of Mussoorie but also help in preventing soil erosion and water conservation. The broad leaves and thick branches of oak trees protect the soil throughout the year and absorb rain water to the ground. Due to this, sufficient quantity of water remains in the water sources in the hilly areas.
Even today this tree is important in the environment of Mussoorie
During the British rule, plantations were carried out to make Mussoorie a convenient hill station and military area. In 1827, sanatoriums and hospitals were built nearby, where injured soldiers were treated. For security and privacy reasons, oak trees were planted on a large scale in this area. These trees still play an important role in the greenery and historical landscape of Mussoorie.
Oak trees in Mussoorie are not only a center of tourist attraction but are also beneficial for the local people and wildlife. These trees provide Mussoorie with a wonderful blend of natural beauty, historical importance and environmental protection.
