Aadhaar Update: To make Aadhaar more secure, the government is preparing to make changes in it soon. It is believed that the new Aadhar card will be without name, address and only your photo and QR code will be visible on it.
New Delhi. You must have known how important Aadhaar is today. All your financial access is not possible without Aadhaar. Obviously, there is a great risk of misuse of such an important document. Sensing this danger, the government has once again talked about changes in your Aadhaar to make it more secure. The new Aadhaar card will be with only your photo and a QR. In this, the name, address and Aadhar card number written as before will be removed.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is considering issuing Aadhaar cards with the holder’s photograph and QR code to prevent misuse of people’s information and discourage offline verification. At a conference organized on Aadhaar, UIDAI Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bhuvnesh Kumar said that the authority is considering bringing a new rule in December to discourage offline verification by entities like hotels, event organizers etc. Also, the age verification process can be enhanced by using Aadhaar while maintaining the privacy of individuals.
How will the new Aadhar card be?
Kumar said, ‘It is being considered as to why any more details are needed on the card. It should contain only picture and QR code. If we publish more information, people will believe the same and those who know how to misuse it will continue to do so. This means that now there will be only your photo and a QR code on the Aadhar card, in which all your information will remain confidential and it cannot be misused.
Rules being broken in verification
According to the Aadhaar Act, the Aadhaar number or biometric information of any person cannot be collected, used or stored for offline verification. Still, many institutions collect and store photocopies of Aadhaar cards. In such a situation, there remains a possibility of fraud or misuse of these Aadhaar. To avoid this, preparations are now underway to make all the information in Aadhaar confidential, so that misuse of people’s information can be prevented by banning offline verification.
What are the rules on Aadhaar verification?
Verification of Aadhaar in the country cannot be done without the consent of the holder and if any institution does so, a fine of up to Rs 1 crore can be imposed on it. This consent will be taken only in biometric or electronic form, which can be obtained from the holder through OTP, fingerprint, iris etc. Only institutions and banks authorized by UIDAI can verify Aadhaar. If the user wants, he can also lock his biometric data and then only OTP will work. If someone misuses the Aadhar card, he can also be imposed with a heavy fine.
