After the age of 40, women generally become victims of diseases like osteoporosis. After menopause, estrogen levels in women decline rapidly, due to which the strength of bones is affected to a great extent. Due to this hormonal change, bones start becoming thin and the risk of fracture increases. However, not only hormones but also the health of the stomach or intestine matters.
Dr. Rupesh of AIIMS, one of the researchers who conducted the study, says, ‘Our study shows that weakening of bones after menopause is not just a hormonal problem, but it is also related to stomach health and immune regulation. We found that Lactobacillus acidophilus creates a balance between protective and harmful immune cells in the stomach, so that inflammation does not occur and bones do not become weak.
Let us tell you that in this study the role of regulatory T cells (Tregs) has been emphasized. This is a group of immune cells that reduce excessive inflammation and protect bone tissue. These cells develop to some extent in the gut and are affected by gut bacteria.
Researchers found that taking Lactobacillus acidophilus supplements restored this immune balance. This probiotic is found in curd. Not only this, it increased the number of protective Treg cells, while reducing the inflammatory Th17 cells, thereby slowing down the weakening of bones.
