Spam Calls: Nowadays spam and fraud calls have made life difficult for people. You all must be receiving bank, loan, insurance, credit card related calls almost every day. Many of these are fake, whose aim is to make people victims of online fraud. This is a serious problem, which people like you and I are facing every day. To deal with this problem, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has taken a big step.
What is the new decision?
Under the new rules of TRAI, now if you get a call from the insurance company, it will come from the 1600 series number only. That means the call will start from number 1600. According to TRAI, all the companies coming under insurance regulator IRDAI will now have to make calls related to services and transactions from customers through number 1600. The last date for this has been fixed as 15 February 2026.
Why was the decision taken?
For TRAI, the objective of this decision is clear – to stop those involved in fake calls, fraud and fraud in the name of insurance. Now there will be no need to trust insurance calls coming from any common mobile number.
Every day lakhs of people in our country are becoming victims of online or digital fraud. Sometimes money is defrauded through OTP, and sometimes extortion is done by offering fake loans. Apart from this, things like insurance policy renewal calls, demand for money in the name of KYC update are also common. To deal with these problems, TRAI has taken this step so that people can easily identify whether the call they are receiving is real or fake.
