Constitution Day: Constitution Day is celebrated across the country every year on 26 November. This is the same historical day when the Constituent Assembly formally adopted the Constitution of India in 1949. However, the Constitution came into full force on 26 January 1950 and India became a republic. This time, to make the 76th Constitution Day special, the Central Government is taking an important initiative, which holds special significance not only for the countrymen but also for the people of neighboring Nepal.
Constitution will be available in 9 Indian languages for the first time
The government will release authorized translations of the Constitution in nine Indian languages this year. These include Nepali, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Bodo, Kashmiri, Telugu, Oriya and Assamese. These translations have been prepared by the Legislative Department of the Union Law Ministry. According to officials, making the Constitution available in Nepali language is the biggest achievement of this year, because considering the cultural, historical and religious relations between India and Nepal, this step will strengthen the understanding and bond between the people of the two countries. Nepali speaking citizens will now be able to read and understand the Indian Constitution in their own language.
The main program will be held in the Central Hall of the Old Parliament House.
The main event of Constitution Day will be held on Wednesday in the prestigious Central Hall of the old Parliament House, which has now been named ‘Samvidhan Sadan’. President Draupadi Murmu will be the chief guest in the program. Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, MPs of both the Houses and diplomats of various countries based in Delhi will be present with him.
The program will start with the welcome speech of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. After this the Vice President will address and then President Murmu will address the joint session of Parliament. During the ceremony the President will also read the Preamble of the Indian Constitution. A beautiful brochure titled ‘Art and Calligraphy in the Constitution of India’ will also be released on this occasion.
Special activities across the country
