Dehradun: These days, the country’s capital Delhi and its surrounding areas have become extremely bad due to polluted air. The lives of people related to breathing are in danger. Along with the national capital, the climate of Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, has also started deteriorating. Dehradun’s environmentalist Ashish Garg said that once upon a time, tourists used to come here due to the weather and greenery of Dehradun, but today the local people are not able to get a clean environment.
What is the reason for increasing pollution?
He said that along with construction, increasing population and increasing number of vehicles, many other factors are causing climate change due to which the weather pattern is also changing. Sometimes it used to be very cold in Dehradun in the month of November. It used to rain here as soon as it was mild winter, but today in the month of November, if you stand in the sun, it starts feeling as hot as summer days.
The changed air is very bad in these areas
Due to lack of rain and fog in Dehradun, particles accumulate in the air. PM 2.5 and PM 10 have started settling in the climate of Dehradun. The air quality index of areas like Dehradun main market Ghantaghar, Rajpur, Dharampur as well as ISBT is very bad. Dehradun’s air quality index was recorded at 165 on Wednesday. Recently CPCB had released a report in which the AQI levels of Dehradun and Kashipur were shown to be very high. It is very important for us to consider this serious situation. Not only the government, the local people should also bring changes in their daily routine to try to make Dehradun clean and beautiful.
Worrying figures for Dehradun residents
According to the recent data released by CPCB and other air monitoring platforms, Dehradun’s Air Quality Index (AQI) is continuously being recorded in the ‘moderate’ to ‘poor’ and sometimes ‘very poor’ category. According to a report, in November 2021, the air quality index of Dehradun had reached 207, which falls in the very poor category, after which its situation started improving by the year 2022. After this, in November 2023, its level suddenly reached 256, this situation became a matter of concern. After this, after the year 2024 has passed smoothly, after Diwali in the year 2025, fluctuations are being seen in the air quality index of Dehradun.
AQI is continuously worsening
After Diwali, suddenly the air quality index of Dehradun had reached 261 and now this month its level has reached 171. Last Wednesday, the air quality index of Dehradun was recorded at 165. Along with the increasing population and number of vehicles, factories etc. have a big role in polluting the air of Dehradun. Ashish Garg said that between 1937 and 1967, where 10,000 vehicles were registered, today there are more than 2 lakh registered vehicles on the roads due to which the emissions of PM 2.5 and NOx (nitrogen oxide) have increased significantly, polluting the air.
