Farmers get double benefit from co-cropping farming
According to farmer Pradeep Shukla, he sowed sugarcane in the month of November and along with it also planted garlic. He says that farmers get double benefit by doing co-cropping. Cultivation of two crops in the same field increases profits and also reduces costs, due to which due to the strong smell of garlic, the incidence of pests on the sugarcane crop is significantly reduced, due to which the expenditure on pesticides is almost eliminated. Farmers say that due to the presence of garlic, the infestation of Nilgai and stray animals in the fields also reduces considerably, because they do not come near the fields due to the smell of garlic.
production of two crops in the same field
Agricultural scientist Pradeep Kumar said that the Agriculture Department is continuously making farmers aware about co-cropping. He says that cultivating two crops in the same field makes better use of land, increases production and also strengthens the financial condition of the farmer. He told that co-cropping of garlic with sugarcane is also beneficial from scientific point of view, because the nutrient requirements of both the crops are different and they do not hinder each other’s growth.
