DLSA Secretary Seema Dungrakoti said that Lok Adalat will be organized on 13th December. He told that if settlement is not possible in any case then Lok Adalat can settle the case on the basis of merits. This court will work as a permanent body to resolve disputes related to public utility services like transport, post, telegraph, electricity, water and hospitals. Told them that Lok Adalat is constituted in India under Section 22-B of the Legal Services Authority Act 1987. He told that two types of cases come in Lok Adalat, one which are pending cases in the court and are resolved by mutual agreement and the other are pre-litigation cases which have not yet come to the court but may come, for example, if there is any kind of transaction with the bank, if someone has taken a loan from the bank and their installments are left, then on all these matters the party resolves the matter by talking to the concerned bank. This is the reason why all the bank employees are present in the Lok Adalat. There are about 34 to 35 bank employees in the campus who settle people’s cases in this Lok Adalat. He told that Dehradun had performed well in Lok Adalat matters, in which 3 thousand 754 cases were settled in pre-litigation and in the month of September, 6 thousand 900 cases were resolved and this time also we are expecting more and more people to come so that they can get relief easily.
Which cases are settled?
DLSA Secretary Seema Dungrakoti said that many types of challans related to vehicles are also settled in Lok Adalat, which include cases like driving without wearing helmet, without seat belt, overspeeding, wrong parking, not having valid pollution certificate, jumping red light and clerical errors. Although serious cases like drunk driving, hit and run and driving by a minor are not heard in Lok Adalat, in other cases people can get relief from visiting the court.
