Due to low cost, quick preparation and continuously increasing demand, this crop is becoming the first choice of farmers. What is this crop and how is it giving so much profit? This is the story of changing farmers’ earnings.
Barabanki: Carrot cultivation in winter has become a very profitable crop for the farmers. This crop is ready in less time, requires less care and its demand in the market remains throughout the year. Carrot consumption is consistent everywhere, from domestic use to juice, pudding and processing industries, so farmers can earn by growing it throughout the year. Its demand is highest in summer, due to which farmers get better prices.
Good earning at low cost
The biggest advantage of carrot farming is that it is less prone to diseases or pests, hence the expenses are also very less. This is the reason why farmers are able to get good profits at low cost. Farmer Karan Yadav, resident of Saheliya village of Barabanki district, also started carrot cultivation instead of traditional crops and now he is earning Rs 90 thousand to Rs 1 lakh from one crop by growing carrots in about 2 bighas.
Karan Yadav tells that there is always demand for carrots in the market and this crop is going to give less expense and more profit. One bigha costs around Rs 10 to 12 thousand and the profit from the finished crop is around Rs 1 lakh. It does not require much care, because diseases are very rare and the cost of pesticides is also almost negligible. Only timely irrigation is necessary.
How is carrot cultivation done?
Karan Yadav tells that cultivating carrots is very easy. First of all, the field is deeply plowed two to three times and cow dung or other organic fertilizers are mixed in it. After this, carrot seeds are sown in the entire field. The first irrigation is done about two weeks after the plants emerge. After this, urea is used in small quantities. The crop is completely ready in about two and a half to three months.
Which soil is the best?
Sandy and loamy soil is considered best for good yield of carrots. Carrots can be easily grown even in loose and well drained soil.
