According to the information, a joint team of District Mining Department and Police conducted this surgical strike on the basis of information. Sand mafia was active in the temporary market built on Digha-Chhapra road, who were selling sand illegally extracted from river Ganga. There was no resistance during the raid, but the size of the business can be gauged from the number of vehicles seized. Officials said that these tractors were being operated without any valid permit, which was a violation of both environment and law. Let us tell you that on December 6, Samrat Chaudhary had instructed the police officers to immediately seize the vehicles of illegal mining and auction them.
Special operation against mafia
After the action, Patna District Magistrate S. M. Rajasekaran Thiagarajan said that action will be taken against all sand mafia under CCA (Criminal Contract Act). A special drive will be run against illegal mining, in which drones and hi-tech boats will be used. He warned that no leniency would be taken against organized gangs of land mafia, sand mafia and liquor mafia. If caught, strictest action will be taken. Let us tell you that recently in the Assembly, Samrat Chaudhary himself had said that the bulldozer action against the mafia will continue.
Statewide cleanliness campaign
This raid is a part of the ongoing statewide campaign against illegal mining in Bihar. In July 2025 itself, a fine of Rs 4.60 crore was imposed in Patna district, in which more than 90 vehicles were seized. According to the information, the special team formed under the leadership of Samrat Chaudhary is keeping an eye on the paper leak as well as the mining mafia. Now the mafia’s back is going to be broken due to drone survey and real-time monitoring. Environmentalists believe that this will stop uncontrolled mining on the banks of the Ganga, which causes floods and soil erosion.
