NHAI is marking black spots since 2015
Security measures are being taken in the long term blackspot
New Delhi. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is constantly making efforts to reduce road accidents. Efforts are also being made to reduce the accidents by reducing the black spots on the roads. Under this, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) started the work of eliminating more than 4200 black spots by identifying them. More than half of these black spots have been eliminated and work is on to eliminate the remaining ones.
According to NHAI, around 4002 blackspots were identified on National Highways between the years 2015-2018. Black spot is eliminated by long term and short term measures. Short-term security mitigation measures have been implemented for all these blackspots and long-term security mitigation measures have been completed at 2,704 blackspots. Security mitigation measures were implemented at about 716 blackspots in the financial year 2021-22. The remaining 1,298 blackspots are in various stages of implementation of long-term security mitigation measures, which are being phased out.

Black spot removal process
Black spots are eliminated in two ways. First short term or second long term.
short term

long term
After the study, construction of service road, major junction, pedestrian underpass, vehicle underpass, flyover, foot over bridge is included.

After the construction work or changes done on the spot, it is monitored for the next 3 years whether the number of accidents has reduced to zero or reduced. If this happens then that black spot is considered over. For this, the figures of the NHI are compared with the figures of the police.
