Railway Shelter News: Indian Railways has taken a big step to increase the convenience of passengers. Modern platform shelters are being built at a total of 63 stations at a cost of Rs 62 crore. This will provide better safety and comfort to passengers in sunlight, rain and bad weather. The project is progressing rapidly and soon passengers will start getting its benefits.
The work of construction of platform shelters is being done rapidly at 63 railway stations of Jodhpur division, so that passengers can get better protection from problems like sun, heat and rain. North Western Railway has prepared a big plan of about Rs 62 crore for this. According to railway officials, as the number of passengers is continuously increasing, it has become necessary to expand the platform shelter so that comfortable waiting facilities are available to everyone even during rush hours.
Chief Public Relations Officer Shashi Kiran said that under this project, not only new shelters are being built, but old and small structures are also being expanded. There are many stations where the existing sheds were not able to meet the needs of the passengers. Therefore, the shelter is being increased in both length and width, so that more passengers can get shade and protection. This work is being done on priority keeping the technical standards in mind.
Major stations included in this project include big and busy stations like Barmer, Balotra, Jalore, Phalodi, Ramdevra, Degana, Merta Road, Nagaur, Sujangarh, Deshnoke, Bhagat Ki Kothi, Jaisalmer, Makrana, Kuchaman City and Badi Khatu. Thousands of passengers travel daily at all these stations. With the construction of new shelters, there will be a big improvement in the experience of passengers coming to these stations.

The big plan of North Western Railway is not limited to Jodhpur division only. A massive project worth Rs 262 crore is also underway to install platform shelters in Jaipur, Ajmer and Bikaner divisions. Along with this, Rs 80 crore is being spent separately on increasing the length and height of the platform. This will make it easier to accommodate the increasing number of coaches in trains and will also make the process of boarding and deboarding passengers safe.
Both rural and urban passengers will directly benefit from this investment being made by Railways to increase passenger convenience. Especially when there is a sudden change in weather or during the scorching heat of summer, it becomes difficult to stand on the platform. The new shelters will significantly reduce these challenges. With this the beauty of the railway station will also increase. Apart from this, passengers will get better and safer environment.
Let us tell you that a platform shelter is actually a protected roof made of steel, sheets and a strong support structure. It is designed in such a way that it can withstand adverse conditions like strong wind, rain and sunlight. Its main objective is to provide a safe place for passengers to sit and stand. With time, Railways is upgrading these shelters with modern designs and durable materials.
