Indore Sweet Dish: Who does not feel like eating hot sweets in winter? Many food items are famous in Indore, but this winter sweet is something different. This sweet of Indore looks like Gulab Jamun, but its name is the same. Yes, we are talking about Mawa Bati found in Malwa region.
Actually, while making Mawa Bati, Mawa and arrowroot are mixed and fried in ghee for a long time, due to which it becomes a little hard. Just like a bati. Its color also becomes completely black, hence it was named Mawa Bati. It is light golden from outside and very soft from inside. It is also dipped in syrup like Gulab Jamun.
So different from Gulab Jamun
It is eaten with Rabri. An excellent filling is prepared in Mawa Bati by mixing dry fruits, cardamom and a little mawa inside. This stuffing is what makes it different and amazing from ordinary Gulab Jamun. Mawa Bati looks so beautiful that one feels like eating it from a distance.
Shop opens till 1:30 in the night
Vaishnav family has a shop for about 8 years in front of Imambara in Indore’s Sarafa Bazaar, which sells Mawa Bati, Moong Halwa, Gulab Jamun and Carrot Halwa from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. Jatin Vaishnav told, he has three shops at one place and he is the third generation who is running it. The practice of Mawa Baati in Indore was started by his grandfather.
If you eat like this you will enjoy double
Further told, even though this sweet may look like Gulab Jamun, its shape is much bigger and flatter than the common Gulab Jamun, which gives it a unique identity. The fun doubles when eaten with hot Malai Rabri. Mawa absorbs the baati rabri into itself. It dissolves as soon as it is placed in the mouth.
