Musk said that his partner Shivon Jillis is of Indian origin and the middle name of one of his sons has been named ‘Shekhar’, which was chosen to honor Nobel Prize winning Indian-American scientist Subrahmanyam Chandrasekhar. During the conversation, Musk casually said that very few people would know that Shivan Jilis is half Indian. He told that the full name of one of his sons has been kept in honor of Chandrashekhar. Kamath immediately expressed surprise that he was not aware of Shivan’s Indian roots.
Who is Shivon Jillis?
Musk told that Shivon was adopted in childhood itself. His father was probably a foreign student who had come to study in some university. Shivan grew up in Canada and later studied economics and philosophy at Yale University. Today she is the director of operations and special projects at Musk’s brain-tech company Neuralink. Prior to this, she has worked in important roles with both OpenAI and Tesla. Looking at his career, both Forbes and LinkedIn had included him in the list of young influential professionals.

This name was chosen in honor of Indian-American scientist Subramaniam Chandrasekhar. The same Chandrashekhar who received the Nobel Prize in 1983 for historical research on the structure of stars. Musk has deep respect for science and scientists and Chandrashekhar’s influence is clearly visible on his thinking.
