If we look at the history, it is said that the foundation of Sutapatti Mandi was laid by five entrepreneurs from Rajasthan. At that time trade was limited, but with time this market kept progressing day and night. Today Sutapatti has become the biggest center point of textile business in North Bihar.

The biggest specialty of Sutapatti is its wide trade network. According to the information, there are many big traders in this market whose annual turnover is in crores of rupees. Although exact and official figures related to business are not available, but traders and experts estimate that transactions worth hundreds of crores of rupees take place through this market every year.
The most surprising thing is that even today about 60 percent of the textile business of the neighboring country Nepal is operated from Sutapatti market of Muzaffarpur. A large number of wholesale traders from Nepal reach here and buy all types of garments including sarees, suits, lehengas, children’s clothes.

Sajjan Sharma, former General Secretary of North Bihar Commerce and Industry Council, said that Sutapatti is a very famous and huge textile market of North Bihar. All types of clothes are available here at both wholesale and retail rates, which attracts not only local customers but also buyers from Nepal and other states.
Due to this wide reach and business, Sutapatti is called ‘Mini Surat of India’. Traders say that if better roads, parking and modern infrastructure facilities are provided, this market can grow faster at the international level.
