For mushroom production in winter, it is mandatory to maintain 15 to 18 degree Celsius temperature and 80-85% humidity. According to agricultural advisor Ravikant Pandey, extreme cold can cause melting of the crop, to avoid this, proper use of ventilation and heater is necessary. The entire crop can be saved by immediately removing the infected bags.
West Champaran: The craze for mushroom production has increased significantly among most of the farmers of India including Bihar. In comparison to the cultivation of other crops, mushroom farming neither requires land nor much hard work including irrigation. Just leave the bags full of spawns in a dark room with some precautions, so that the production process will start after a certain time. However, as simple and easy as this task is, it is more complex and harmful in winter. A small mistake made in this season can spoil the entire crop. Before you too become a victim of this loss, let us give you some important information about its farming in winter.
Ideal temperature for mushroom production in winter
Agricultural consultant Ravikant Pandey, who has been working on farming and mushroom production for two decades, says that in winter, the temperature of the mushroom room should be between 15 to 18 degrees Celsius. If the temperature drops more than this, the moisture in the bags will start increasing, due to which they will start melting. To avoid this, farmers should keep in mind that the temperature should be constantly monitored by installing a thermometer in the room. If the temperature is falling too much, use a simple heater, bulb or any safe source of heat to keep the room warm.
Keep these things in mind regarding the humidity of the room
Let us tell you that along with the temperature, the humidity of the room is also very important for mushrooms. If there is too much humidity in the room, water droplets will start freezing in the bag, which will cause the seeds to melt. Producers should keep in mind that the humidity of the room should remain between 80 to 85%. Not only this, if you have kept the mushroom room completely closed, it will spoil the air inside. To avoid this, there should be light ventilation in the room even in winter. Keep in mind that air should not directly blow on the bag, otherwise both temperature and moisture can be affected.
Do not delay in changing the bag if it gets damaged.
According to Ravikant, two to three varieties of mushroom are produced in all the states of the state including West Champaran. These include Button, Oyster and Milky. The thing to note is that the method of farming of these three is completely different from each other. Therefore, before starting, you must take advice from an expert. Yes, keep in mind that if one bag starts melting, it soon affects the other bags as well. Therefore, as soon as any smell, color change or excessive wetness is visible in any bag, immediately throw it out of the room.
