Jatra Bastar Madai Festival: Fair-Madai Jatra is the cultural heritage of Bastar. People come from all over the country and abroad to see this Madai Mela-Jatra. A unique flavor of Bastar’s culture can be seen in the Madai Fair of Bastar. Aghaan Jatra was organized in Dantewada district last Tuesday. It is believed that by visiting Shitala Mata situated here, the disease of smallpox is completely cured. Therefore every year thousands of devotees come for darshan.
In this Jatra held in Dantewada, new crop is offered. Villagers from all the surrounding villages participate in this fair. The villagers here have been following this tradition for many years. People from more than 365 villages participate in this event. Devotees offer their prayers by offering paddy, coconut and coconut leaves. There is always a crowd of devotees to visit this temple. In this puja, the tune of traditional Mohri baja of Bastar is played.
To the tune of Mohri Baja, new rice is offered to the Goddess, which is also called Nua (new) Bhog. At the same time, animals are also sacrificed in this Jatra. It is believed that this tradition has been going on since ancient times, which is followed even today. This tradition of Bastar can be seen even today.
Parameshwara Nath of Geeta of Danteshwari temple told that Agahan Jatra is celebrated every year in the month of Agahan. This happens in Shukla Paksha. The new crop is offered as an offering.
