G-20 News: G-20 Summit-2025 was organized in South Africa. This was also in controversies. US President Donald Trump alleges that the government of South Africa has maintained silence on the atrocities against Christians. Trump did not attend the G-20 summit on this basis. Now tensions have increased further due to President Trump’s social media posts.
G-20 News: The African continent has suffered the brunt of apartheid for decades. South Africa was also not left untouched by this. There was a long struggle between whites and blacks. When the situation changed, a different atmosphere has now arisen in South Africa. US President Donald Trump alleges that the South African government is silent on the atrocities against Christians. No action of any kind is being taken. On this basis, Trump refused to participate in the G-20 summit held in South Africa. South Africa also responded to this in its own style. The interesting thing is that the next G-20 summit is to be held in Miami i.e. America. According to tradition, the current host country hands over the formal letter of convention to the head of state of the incoming host country. US President Donald Trump did not participate in it. Washington wanted the formal letter of hosting to be handed over to the senior representative, but South Africa did not do so. Angered by this, Donald Trump announced that South Africa will not be invited to the G-20 summit to be held in Miami. Let us tell you that African Union is also a member of G-20, on which Trump did nothing. This means that the African Union will be invited to the summit in Miami.
Trump’s attitude has now created a strange situation. Actually, South Africa is already a member of G-20. In the Delhi G-20 Summit of 2023, the African Union was also made a member of this special grouping. The role of India and especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi was important in this. There are a total of 55 member countries in the African Union, hence this union has its own importance at the global level. African Union’s joining G-20 was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. There was a wave of happiness in South Africa also due to this announcement. G-20 is a comprehensive organization in which developed as well as developing countries are well represented. The bitterness created with America in the Johannesburg G-20 Summit has eclipsed these happiness.
Donald Trump’s tough stance may also have an impact on the G-20.
What will be the impact on G-20?
Now the question arises that what impact can this conflict between South Africa and America have on the G-20 grouping? Can this have an adverse impact on South-South cooperation? Actually, South Africa fought against apartheid for a long time. Only after this, the discrimination that had been going on for a long time between whites and blacks in this country could be eradicated. With this, another kind of problem has arisen. US President Donald Trump alleges that the South African government is silent on the atrocities against Christians. Appropriate steps are not being taken in this matter. Along with this, Trump also announced not to attend the Johannesburg G-20 summit. However, top leaders of other countries including India participated in it and a consensus was reached to further raise the voice of developing countries. Along with this, the issue of reform in the United Nations Security Council also remained under discussion. But, the non-participation of America, the world’s most powerful country, raised many questions. Now Trump has directly announced that South Africa will not be invited to the G-20 summit to be held in America next year.
What is the impact on India?
The second most important question is what effect the tension between South Africa and America will have on India? In fact, India and South Africa are members of many important multilateral groupings. Among these, IBSA and BRICS are important. Apart from this, India has also been getting the support of South Africa in the UN. America’s Trump government has taken a tough stance against South Africa. Amidst the tariff war, doubts are beginning to deepen whether America will have the same attitude towards South Africa as it has towards Russia. America has taken a tough stance against India regarding oil imports from Russia. If this happens in the case of South Africa too, then naturally it will not be auspicious for India at all.
What did Trump say?
US President Donald Trump said that he will not invite South Africa to the G-20 summit to be held in Florida next year. Along with this, he has also announced to stop all subsidies to South Africa. Donald Trump shared a post on the social media platform. Trump wrote in the post that America did not join the G-20 in South Africa because the South African government has kept silence on the atrocities against Christians. The US President said the South African government refuses to acknowledge or address the horrific human rights abuses suffered by African people and the descendants of Dutch, French and German immigrants. He said that simply put, they are killing white people and allowing their farms to be randomly taken away from them. Perhaps the worst thing is that the soon to be closed New York Times and the fake news media will not say a word against this massacre. Trump said that at the conclusion of the G-20, South Africa refused to hand over the presidency of the G-20 to a senior representative of our US Embassy. Therefore, on my instructions, South Africa will not receive an invitation to the 2026 G-20, which will be hosted in Miami, Florida next year.
