New Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government is taking decisions for the welfare of the people and not to make them feel good without being influenced by vote bank politics. Addressing ‘The Indian Express Excellence in Governance Award Ceremony’, Shah said that irrespective of ideology, the work of any government should be appreciated if it is done for the benefit and well-being of the people.
The Home Minister said, ‘Modi government is not taking decisions so that people like them. She is taking such decisions, which will benefit the people. We brought GST (Goods and Services Tax), even though we knew there was opposition to it. We brought DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) and it was also opposed. At times some decisions may have seemed harsh, but these decisions were taken for the betterment of all the people.
All the governments tried their best for the development of the country.
Shah said that since independence, the country has seen 22 governments and 15 prime ministers and all of them tried their best for the development of the country with their capabilities and available resources. He said, “Irrespective of ideology, we have to recognize the works of those people, who have done good work, have taken good decisions for the welfare of the people.”
‘Have to make own good governance model’
The Union Home Minister said that the government should always have faith in the people and the people should also have faith in the government. He said, ‘Modi government has never made policies keeping in mind the vote bank.’ Shah said that the basic mantra of good governance should be people-centred development. He said, ‘We have to create our own good governance model, which should be accessible to everyone. It should reach the lowest level of the society and cover every nook and corner of the country.
