If you take the problem of swelling or pain in the eyes lightly, then be careful. Recently, a 33-year-old young man had to have his eyes operated due to these symptoms, in which the doctor found a tumor as big as the size of a grape.
A grape-sized tumor has been found in the eye of a 33-year-old man in Delhi. The problem started with mild pain and swelling in the eye, which the doctor did not take very seriously at first considering it to be thyroid. But when the eye problem started increasing, the doctors immediately came into action, after which an MRI was done which showed a tumor as big as a grape.
Dr. Rituraj Barua of Max Multi Specialty Center, Panchsheel Park, said that initially when the patients came with eye swelling and ‘proptosis’ i.e. protrusion of the eye, they were examined for thyroid problem. But when the symptoms increased, detailed imaging examination revealed that there was a two and a half centimeter tumor behind the eyeball which was putting pressure on the optic nerve.
Eyesight could be lost forever
Dr. Barua said that if timely treatment was not done, the patient’s vision could have been permanently affected due to this tumor. Seeing such a serious situation, doctors performed surgery and successfully removed the tumor. The doctor also told that there are many types of tumors in the eye, which can be benign or cancerous. It is very important to identify the tumor forming inside the eye and treat it on time so that the eyesight remains intact.
Consult a doctor immediately
This incident tells us the importance of not ignoring any unusual eye problem and getting it checked and treated by a specialist on time. As told by the doctor, if there is a problem like pain or swelling, then get it checked immediately so that serious problems can be detected and proper treatment can be done.
