Mexico Will Give Political Protection to Julian Assange: Mexico said that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is ready to give political protection to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. The Mexican offer came after a British court turned down the US demand for Assange’s extradition.
Preparations to provide political asylum to Assange
President Andrés Manuel López Obredor told reporters to complete the process related to the release of Assange from the country’s foreign minister and to seek asylum in Mexico. The Foreign Minister should request the UK government to release Assange and Assange can take political asylum in Mexico. Assange can face up to 175 years in prison if convicted in the US.
British Court verdict called ‘Victory of Justice’President Andres Manuel López Obredor has welcomed the decision by the British court to dismiss the US request for extradition in the wake of 49-year-old Australian publisher Julian Assange’s suicide. He called the decision a victory for justice, saying Assange is a journalist and deserves an opportunity. The President said that Mexico will also ensure that anyone who seeks refuge in the country will interfere in the political affairs of any other country.

Educational and foreign relations expert Adolf Labord said that Mexico has a long history of asylum. Mexico has welcomed many political refugees, from Nicaragua’s anti-imperialist hero Cesar Augusto Sandino to Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky, and most recently former Bolivia’s former president Ivo Morales. In the case of Assange taking refuge in Mexico, Adolf Labord said that whether Assange is included in the list of asylum seekers or not will depend on political pressure and various factors and countries’ stance.
