Panaji/New Delhi. The noose is tightening in the case of the massive fire incident that took place at the night club in Arpora, Goa. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is now seriously considering canceling the passports of nightclub co-owners Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra. In this tragic accident that took place on December 6, 25 people were burnt to death. Immediately after the incident, both the accused left the country and fled to Thailand. Now the central government has started taking strict steps to bring them back. This action is being taken following the request of the Goa government, in which it had written a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs demanding immediate intervention.
Ministry’s action on Goa government’s letter
Sources said on Wednesday that the Ministry of External Affairs has received an official letter from the Goa government. In this, a demand has been made to cancel the passports of Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra. The ministry is now examining this request under the rules of the Indian Passport Act. As soon as the legal process is completed, their passports can be cancelled, which will ban their international travel and pave the way for their deportation.
Thailand absconds and Interpol notice
On the dark night of 6th December, 25 innocent people lost their lives due to fire in the night club of Arpora. Even before the police investigation could begin, club owners Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra took the opportunity and fled to Thailand. To ensure his arrest, Interpol’s ‘Blue Corner Notice’ has already been issued against him. Blue Corner Notices are used to collect additional information about a person’s identity, location or activities in connection with a crime.
Increasing pressure and legal troubles
After the death of 25 people, there is immense pressure on the Goa administration to arrest the accused. After the cancellation of passport, it will become difficult for the Luthra brothers to stay in Thailand. According to visa rules, once the passport is canceled, their visa may also become invalid, after which the Thai authorities can take them into custody and hand them over to India. At present, Indian agencies are also in touch with the Thai authorities so that the accused can be brought to justice as soon as possible.
