Maruti Suzuki will start electric journey with E Vitara in 2026, expanded charging network with investment of Rs 250 crore, launched E for Me app, HEV system will come in Front and Baleno. Maruti E Vitara is the company’s first EV for which buyers have been waiting for a long time. The company has recently introduced it in the Indian market. People will have to wait a little longer for the launch.
New Delhi. Maruti Suzuki is going to start its electric journey in India by launching the e Vitara in early 2026. This midsize electric SUV will pave the way for the launch of many more electric vehicles from the company, as the company wants to achieve the top spot in the rapidly growing EV segment. Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, said that the company will introduce many new electric vehicles in different body types and segments in the coming years.
Maruti Suzuki’s EV planning
Before expanding its EV lineup, the Indo-Japanese automaker is creating a complete ecosystem, from setting up charging stations to providing end-to-end support to customers. So far, more than 2,000 exclusive charging stations have been built in more than 1,100 cities, including the top 100 EV markets and intercity routes. To further expand the charging ecosystem, Maruti Suzuki is working with many charge point operators and aggregators.
Investment of Rs 250 crore
With an investment of Rs 250 crore, the company has expanded charging infrastructure at its dealerships and launched its dedicated EV mobile app ‘e for Me’. Through this app, users can locate and access Maruti owned and partner operated public EV charging stations, control home charging and even make payments from a single platform.
Awaiting details
Upcoming Maruti Electric Cars Maruti Suzuki has not yet shared the names or details of its upcoming electric cars. However, the range may include an entry-level electric hatchback that will take on the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV, as well as an electric MPV (codenamed YMC) by 2030. The company can also introduce an electric version of its popular Front compact crossover.
Company’s electric portfolio will grow
Upcoming Maruti Hybrid Cars The Indo-Japanese automaker is also planning to expand its strong hybrid product portfolio in the coming years. Maruti Suzuki is developing its own strong hybrid powertrain, which will probably debut with the Frontex facelift in 2026. This series hybrid powertrain, codenamed HEV, is said to be more economical and efficient than Toyota’s Atkinson hybrid powertrain. Maruti’s HEV system, designed for the mass-market, will also be offered in the new generation Baleno hatchback, Brezza and Swift.
