New Delhi. Cyber thugs, who were targeting the common man till now, have this time breached the account of the honorable person. A case of cyber fraud has come to light with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s MP Kalyan Banerjee. This entire incident happened right under the nose of the SBI branch manager and the thugs stole Rs 55 lakh from the MP’s account. After this incident, SBI has registered a case with the cyber police.
According to Anandabazar News Portal, All India Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee has become a victim of cyber fraud. According to reports, a case of embezzlement of Rs 55 lakh has come to light from the assembly bank account opened in SBI by the MP. After the cyber fraud, SBI officials made an official complaint in the cyber crime department and registered a case.
Manager called and informed about fraud
If the news portal is to be believed, Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee claims that the SBI branch manager of the High Court branch himself has informed him about this fraud. According to the MP, the branch manager called him on November 6 and informed him that there was a fraud of Rs 55 lakh in his account. Kalyan Banerjee, Lok Sabha member from Serampore parliamentary seat of West Bengal, has expressed disappointment in this incident of fraud. However, after the bank’s complaint, the Cyber Crime Branch of Kolkata Police has started investigation.
How did the fraud happen?
According to the news portal, this fraud has been carried out by thugs using the photo and mobile number of the MP. Cyber thugs first transferred Rs 55 lakh from the MP’s main bank account at SBI’s Kalighat branch in Kolkata to his inactive account at the SBI sub-branch in Assembly. After the funds were transferred, the swindlers withdrew all the money from the account. On getting information about this, the branch manager of SBI informed the MP and registered a case with the cyber police.
Why did MP’s bank account become inactive?
Kalyan Banerjee had opened this account in the Assembly sub-branch of SBI when he was an MLA from 2001 to 2006. This sub branch comes under the High Court branch of SBI. Banerjee’s account was also opened along with other MLAs, because during her tenure as MLA, all the allowances came to this account. Banerjee said that the MP did not do any transaction from this account for a long time, which is why this account was converted into an inactive account. However, under the rules, banks also have to declare such accounts inactive.
