Chatra district of Jharkhand is now emerging as a center of higher education instead of minerals and Naxalite activities. Chatra College, the oldest and prestigious institution of the district, holds a special place in the field of education. Affiliated to Vinoba Bhave University, this college today provides education from undergraduate to postgraduate in all the three streams of Arts, Science and Commerce. Due to modern facilities like library, laboratories and digital classrooms, this college has been the first choice of students for a long time.

Simaria Degree College also holds an important place in the higher education system of the district. In this area with rural background, this institute has become a big center of hope for the students. Undergraduate studies are conducted in the Faculty of Arts and Commerce, and new courses and facilities are constantly being added.
Ram Narayan Memorial College of Hunterganj subdivision, established in 1982, is especially known for arts and commerce education. Many students of this college have enhanced the reputation of the institute by achieving success in state level examinations.
Vananchal College, Tandwa located in Tandwa block is an important center of education. Initially, studies in this college were conducted only in the Faculty of Arts, but now studies in other subjects including commerce have also started here.
