Kishanganj/Ashish Kumar Sinha. India has taken the recent contacts between military officials of Bangladesh and Pakistan as a serious strategic signal. In view of this, the Army has taken major steps to strengthen the security of Siliguri Corridor, the northeastern lifeline of the country. According to intelligence sources, three new military stations or garrisons have been established in the areas bordering Bangladesh. These new military bases have been built in Bamuni in Assam, Kishanganj in Bihar, and Chopra in West Bengal. These places have been selected considering the extremely sensitive geographical nature of the Siliguri Corridor. In case of crisis, these garrisons will provide fast and flexible strong strategic capability to the Army and BSF.
Siliguri Corridor: New strategic role of Kishanganj
Let us tell you that Siliguri Corridor is famous by the name of ‘Chicken Neck’ due to its narrow width. In some parts it is only 22 kilometers wide. This corridor is the only link connecting the eight northeastern states with the mainland of India. Any kind of obstruction here can isolate the eight north-eastern states of India from the mainland of the country. This will have a serious impact on the military supply chain and business worth billions of rupees may come to a standstill. A senior army officer says that this is not India’s weakness but its strength. Because our army is deployed here from three sides.
Why is Siliguri Corridor important?
Security agencies believe that in case of any unexpected conflict, anti-India forces can target this important corridor. Therefore, the security structure of this area is being strengthened more than ever. The way political developments have taken place in Bangladesh after the removal of Sheikh Hasina from power, it is being taken very seriously in the military circles of India.
India warned its enemies by strengthening the security of Siliguri Corridor.
Danger from proximity of Bangladesh and Pakistan
Siliguri Corridor- Lifeline of the North East
The Army has strengthened security by setting up new military stations on Kishanganj, Siliguri Corridor and Bangladesh border, know the reason for the strategic steps.
Surveillance system and security infrastructure upgrades
Many Union Ministers including Home Minister Amit Shah have visited Kishanganj and told about its importance. The Home Minister had said during his visit that no compromise is possible on its security. This is the reason why the Army has made this deployment to deal with any unpleasant situation so that the enemy will think twice before doing anything. Bangladesh border is only 23 kilometers away from Kishanganj city, hence it is important.
Clear and clear message from India, zero risk policy
The new deployment clearly shows that India is no longer ready to make any laxity regarding national security and geographical integrity. With drone surveillance, digital watch towers, rapid response forces and advanced border management, the Siliguri Corridor is now stronger and safer than ever. Amidst the changing geopolitical equations, India’s message is clear – no one can touch the pulse of the North East!
